PCCA Sponsors Best Poster Award at European Paediatric Formulation Initiative (EuPFI)

The two-day conference was entirely dedicated to bringing together the latest advances, challenges and opportunities for developing medicinal products and medicinal devices for pediatric use.

eupfi1PCCA Science participated as a sponsor of the Best Poster Award at the Fifth Annual European Paediatric Formulation Initiative (EuPFI) Conference, “Formulating Better Medicines for Children,” in Barcelona, Spain on September 18-19, 2013.

The EuPFI was created in 2007 with its main objective to identify issues and challenges in pediatric formulation development in order to raise awareness and facilitate preparation of better, safer medicines for children (EuPFI, 2014).

The EuPFI convoked its fifth annual conference together with the International Association of Pharmaceutical Technology (APV). The two-day conference was entirely dedicated to bringing together the latest advances, challenges and opportunities for developing medicinal products and medicinal devices for pediatric use. Participants included 162 delegates from 27 countries with diverse backgrounds from Industry, Academia, Regulatory and other organizations. Their involvement in both formulation development and regulatory submissions provided a productive setting for the exchange of information and views, and was very encouraging. The symposium discussed the awareness and understanding of pediatric-specific issues in the development of pediatric formulations.

eupfi2PCCA was represented by Fabiana Banov, RPh, MS, and Maria Carvalho, PharmD, ARPharmS, PhD. In order to qualify for the PCCA award, the candidate had to post a PCCA sticker within the poster. The students’ posters were evaluated by Fabiana Banov, Dr. Jenny Walsh and Dr. Iwan Thomas. The PCCA-sponsored 2013 poster award winners were Ramona Trastullo, with her poster “Development of Buccal Films as Novel Dosage Form for Paediatric Use,” Eva Julie Laukamp with “Immediate-Release Carbamazepine Formulation for Individually Dosing By the Solid Dosage Pen” and Sejal Ranmal with “End User Perceptions of Solid Oral Dosage Forms in the UK and Canada - Part 1: School Children and Adolescents.” The winners were awarded a PCCA check by Fabiana Banov and Maria Carvalho.
