PCCA Names Kelly Selby Compounding Pharmacist of the Year

HOUSTON, Texas (November 11, 2016) – Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) has named Kelly Selby, RPh, FIACP, of Community Pharmacy in Denton, Texas, as its Dr. M. George Webber 2016 Compounding Pharmacist of the Year, an award that is presented annually to an independent pharmacist who has demonstrated service excellence to patients, healthcare providers and pharmacy colleagues. Compounding is the pharmacy method of preparing customized medications to meet each prescriber’s and patient’s unique needs. The late Dr. Webber, for whom the award is named, was a long-time professor with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, and was instrumental in the formation of PCCA in 1981. PCCA President Jim Smith and CEO L. David Sparks presented the award to Selby on November 11, 2016, during the company’s International Seminar in Houston, Texas.

“[Kelly] has the highest level of ethical standards both professionally and personally,” said Sparks. “He is well known and respected within his community at home and within his PCCA colleague community.” He added that Selby “is known in his network, and beyond, for caring deeply about his patients, prescribers, his community and his fellow colleagues.”

Selby—who owns Community Pharmacy with his wife Nancy Penn Selby, RPh—has been compounding for over 25 years. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and is a member of the National Community Pharmacy Association and the American Pharmacists Association as well as state and local pharmacy organizations. He joined PCCA in 1989 and was selected as the PCCA Pharmacist of the Month in July 1997.

Selby is known in his community and throughout his profession for his high ethical standards, marketing expertise and advocacy efforts, establishing himself as a trusted resource for colleagues, physicians and patients alike. He has hosted members of the U.S. Congress in his pharmacy on multiple occasions to discuss the importance of compounding. He has also visited members of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Selby’s family—wife Nancy and daughters Emily and Erin—joined him onstage to help celebrate his award. Several friends and colleagues, including Lizzie Harbin, PCCA CCO; Artie Matthys, RPh, PCCA Pharmacy Consultant and Trainer; Danyce Ashton, PCCA Sales and Marketing Specialist; and PCCA members Cheri Garvin, RPh, and Jeff Carson, RPh, offered humorous yet heartfelt accounts of what Selby’s friendship and contributions to the profession have meant to them.
