Matt came to PCCA in October 2022, after working at Oakdell Pharmacy in San Antonio, Texas — the oldest continuously operating member pharmacy of PCCA — for more than two decades. His tenure at Oakdell Pharmacy led to his interest in joining PCCA. “We always took the opportunity to attend PCCA education events, going to sterile and HRT training, and attending International Seminars. I always looked forward to visiting ‘my friends in blue.’”
With each passing year, Matt’s relationships with PCCA grew stronger. “I’ve always dreamed of becoming a PCCA team member,” he said. “It was tough leaving Oakdell, but it felt as if I was moving from one family to another.”
As a member of our Clinical Services team, Matt can respond to clinical questions, as well as help PCCA members with business concerns. “Pharmacy school didn’t offer courses in business, which I find invaluable to community pharmacies,” Matt said. “I love that I can help our members with the business side, as well as with compounding concerns.”
Hired by PCCA in July 2023, Catherine previously owned a lifestyle medicine health-coaching practice in Alabama. Lifestyle medicine is a relatively new approach to managing lifestyle-related diseases. “I consulted virtually with clients from across the country,” Catherine said.
She first learned about PCCA after her husband attended a PCCA Dermatology Symposium in 2010. Reading the various symposium materials piqued her interest in PCCA, as well as her desire to work as a compounding pharmacist. “I worked at The Pill Box Pharmacy, now known as Legacy Compounding, in Decatur, Alabama,“ Catherine said. “The pharmacy owner, Sam Costello, was very generous in contributing to my PCCA education and supporting my growth as a compounding pharmacist.”
As a member of our Clinical Services team, Catherine is able to address lifestyle-related illnesses and diseases, as well as other compounding concerns. “I feel honored to step into the PCCA culture and am motivated to bring my best qualities to the table.”
In September 2023, Celeste came to PCCA after spending 15 years at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, where she started as a clinical pharmacist then transitioned to assistant pharmacy manager, overseeing operations and personnel.
“While I was assistant manager, the NECC compounding crisis occurred, making us look at our compounding operations and compliance,” Celeste said. “I dove into the regulations and began to educate myself and our department regarding changes needed in our physical space, training and compounding practices. We were able to create a role for a compounding pharmacist, which I was fortunate to be able to step into.”
Like many of our Clinical Services team members, Celeste wanted to learn more about compounding. “I was craving more knowledge and looking to expand upon what I already knew. The role at PCCA was shown to me by a friend. After doing a lot of reading and research, I decided to apply and am so glad I did!”
In addition to compounding for pediatric patients, Celeste can help members resolve compounding concerns for oncology patients, as well as address USP 800 standards for the safe handling of hazardous drugs and other regulatory concerns.
